Battery storage: independent advisory, not an equipment vendor.
Sizing, use cases, revenue mechanisms and integrator tenders. We help you choose and negotiate, never to sell.
The battery storage market attracts as many integrators as dispatch-software vendors, each with a solution to sell. Our role: help you decide if, how and with whom to invest, without ever being party to the sale.
What we assess for you
Behind-the-meter storage
Peak shaving, tariff optimization, resilience to outages: we quantify the potential before any tender.
- Power / energy / C-rate sizing
- Tariff and demand-charge analysis
- Grid resilience study
Solar and storage coupling
Co-located storage turns an intermittent PV asset into dispatchable capacity. We assess the real capture uplift.
- AC vs DC coupled architectures
- Expected capture rate
- Bankability of the coupling
FCR, aFRR, capacity mechanism
Stacking several revenues on one asset requires arbitrating between them. We model the optimal mix.
- Balancing-market pre-qualification
- Stacked revenue arbitrage
- Historical replay simulation
Integrator selection
Technical specifications, objective bid evaluation, contract negotiation. You stay in control, we guarantee neutrality.
- Detailed technical specifications
- Selection matrix
- Selection criteria
- Performance guarantee review
Our method
Grid study & revenue potential
Connection diagnosis, revenue modeling by mechanism, pre-sizing.
Costing and sensitivity
Historical replay, IRR/NPV calculation, comparison of financing scenarios.
Specifications & tender
Drafting technical specs, integrator consultation, neutral bid evaluation.
Contracting & commissioning
Warranty review, final negotiation, support through commissioning.
Three revenue streams, to combine or arbitrate.
A battery doesn't generate one revenue stream but several. The best combination depends on the local market, the asset's response speed, and the strategy chosen.
Buy low, sell high
The most familiar mechanism: the battery charges when prices are low and discharges when they are high, capturing the spread. EU market design favors small, fast assets here: small bid sizes, no price caps or floors, and intraday trading running close to real time. All this rewards an asset that can react to a late price move within minutes.
FCR, aFRR, mFRR, RR
Where a fast battery is most competitive: it can inject or absorb power within hundreds of milliseconds. Four reserve products exist, and payment comes two ways: for holding capacity available, and for energy delivered when activated. Prequalification is run per national TSO, so qualifying in one control area doesn't carry over to the next.
Paid to be available
The most stable stream: the battery is paid years in advance for being available during system stress, whether or not it is ever called. But a capacity mechanism only exists where a member state has a proven resource adequacy concern and chooses to run one. Capacity revenue depends heavily on which national market the asset sits in.
